With the rise of social media use, mental health concerns andtheir severity have come to the forefront. Most of the mediashowcase famous personalities and their struggles with depressionand anxiety only after it’s too late. Most recently, AnthonyBourdain took his own life. He is just one of many who have beendealing with mental health for a very long time.

I’ve been a fan of Linkin Park for a very long time. Last yearon July 20, the lead singer, Chester Bennington, also fell victimto long-time depression and took his own life. I have a picture ofme with him at a benefit concert from a few years ago. As you cansee, he had a huge smile and was great with the fans. Not manypeople could see his struggles.

Mental health had not been taken seriously by the generalpopulation until recently and even then, it’s not the most widelyaccepted issue. Hopefully, with the support of those who publiclysuffer from mental health issues, those who are suffering inprivate can find help.

There are some differences between the forms of depression.Major Depression is characterized by the following:

  • fatigue
  • feelings of worthlessness/guilt
  • impaired concentration
  • insomnia, disinterest in activities
